Saffy gave birth to a litter of 4 kittens (3 boys and a girl) on Friday 31st August. The kittens are doing very well – they’ve easily doubled their birth weights, their eyes are almost all open now, and they are very loud and vigorous. We won’t be able to confirm their coat patterns and colours yet, although one of the kittens is distinctly lighter than the others and there are no blues. We’ve had a lot of enquiries and will be working through them over the next few weeks. It’s still worth contacting us if you are looking for a kitten as we will be having another litter in the spring.
Saffy is expecting her third litter of kittens at the end of August. She was mated at the end of June to Chocolatedot Rameses Ecco, a third generation blue Tonkinese bred by Kerry Pilkington in Plymouth. Ecco is a lovely boy with excellent temperament and type, and Saffy was his first mating. Watch this space for news!
Just a quick update from all of us here at Chorus Cats. In December Sylvia won Best of Breed in her class at the Tonkinese Breed Club show.
Thanks to everyone who came along on the day to support the show. We were able to finally confirm Sylvia’s colour and will re-register her as a chocolate. We’re very excited that our local group of breeders will be able to use a new stud cat later this year as a lovely blue boy will be heading to Oxford in the next few weeks. We anticipate mating Sylvia with him in the autumn.
Saffy will be mated again soon, but the stud we’d hoped to use isn’t available and we will probably mate her with Binky (Rameses Tallica Enigma) again, the father of our last litter. So we should be expecting at least one litter this year, but later then we’d hoped. We continue to have great reports from our last litter and wanted to say thank you for everyone that’s sent us news!
Along with a new litter, our next project is a major expansion of our cat run, the weather hasn’t helped and we’re eager to start! Best wishes to all,
Mike & Lizzi
It’s quiet again in the Chorus household now that Saffy’s last litter have left us. Sylvia is doing her best to recreate the mayhem at every possible opportunity, but she’s a gentle soul and her mum is keeping a very close eye on her so she’s being very well behaved! We’ve been delighted to hear how everyone’s been getting on and wanted to share some of the highlights and pictures that we’ve been sent over the last few weeks.
Poppy & Neptune (now Percy) left first and now live in lovely village between Oxford and High Wycombe. Their new mum had a perfect space to build a very luxurious run to keep them safe and they are enjoying it immensely. It contains one of the best outside scratching posts we’ve seen!
Orpheus (now Roly) lives in Brighton, where he’s keeping his new family enchanted. Apollo, who also lives in Brighton has become best friends with a young lady Bengal called Scout. His family put together a detailed diary describing their introduction and this is now available on our website to help other new owners in the future.
Jupiter (now Jasper) has very quickly become best friends with an older Tonk called Jackson in Ross-on-Wye. He’s enjoying a lot of space in his new home and is able to race around the whole house from room to room in a circuit. His new family sent a diary too, and you can find it here.
Penny (now Lexie) was last to leave and now lives in Hampshire. Her new best pal, Finn, is another senior Tonk and he appears to be quite smitten with his new friend. Again a very careful (but ultimately rapid) introduction saw this pair cuddling away with each other after just a few days.
Sylvia is delighting us every moment, and we look forward to sharing more news of her progress soon. She’ll be with us at the Tonkinese Breed Club show in December, helping probationer judges learn how to judge kittens, and we hope to perhaps see some of you there!
We are planning another litter in the Spring, so please watch out for news!
With our very best wishes,
Mike & Lizzi
This weekend we said a fond farewell to Poppy, Neptune, Orpheus and Apollo who have started their next adventures with their lovely new families. Neptune is now called Percy (short for Percival) and Orpheus will be called “Roland Algernon Orpheus” or Rolo for short, as a he is a chocolate. It’s been a pleasure to receive positive reports of happy, purring kittens confidently exploring their new homes – and we look forward to more updates over the next few days. Due to an unexpected change in their circumstances, Jupiter’s prospective family are no longer able to adopt him, so he is currently available and we are starting the search for a new home for him. We’d like to share the more formal portraits we were able to capture as a record of our second litter of Chorus Kittens at the wonderful age of 13 weeks. We are extremely proud of them all! We are planning our next litter, and hope to have a mating in January with a view to kittens being born near to the end of March, and ready in June.
Hi everyone. When Saffy produced her second litter of tiny tonks back at the start of May, the point when they would leave us for their next big adventures seemed so far away. It’s hard to imagine these beautiful young cats leaving us in just two to three weeks – but we have been lucky to find them homes with lovely families. Over the last week we’ve been exploring some new kitten foods, and getting shopping lists ready for their owners, sorting out paperwork and preparing an update to our kitten guide with as much detail as we can whilst the kittens thunder about the place.
Over the next week or two we’ll hopefully take some more pictures of each kitten so we can share some final galleries before they leave, but for now here’s a quick reminder of how much everyone has grown up so far!
Latest kitten status – we will have a final update on their new homes after 24th July.
