This week we’ve really noticed the kittens starting to purr. Their dad Ecco has a very BIG purr, so we expect they’ll carry on and follow his lead. They continue to take life in their stride – and with plenty of space and a couple of rooms full of fun things for kittens to do they are having a lovely time growing up. We’re enjoying them a great deal, and so is Sylvia who’s been a perfect mum this first time around. On Saturday Lottie chose her new owner (and approved of her new owner’s mum too), and will enjoy the company of an older Burmese and a very fun-sounding Spaniel; Corelli has a family visiting him next weekend. They’re all eating well – at the moment their diet is raw minced chicken which is rather like rocket fuel for kittens! In about three weeks we’ll start to expand their diet with a variety of other foods so that they’re familiar with a range of options to carry on with once they’re in their new homes.
In other news, Saffy started calling yesterday and is (as we write) visiting a very handsome and special stud boy in Oxford – Ramintha of Rameses. Minnie is a new stud imported from Thailand to expand the UK Tonkinese bloodlines. Considered a foundation (F1) Tonkinese, his mating with Saffy will produce only brown kittens, in either Tonkinese or Burmese coat patterns. If all goes to plan, Saffy’s next litter will be due almost exactly a year apart from her last – so kittens would be born at the end of August and ready for new homes at the end of November. We’ll know in about a month if the mating has been successful.
